THE BRITISH FRONT.
Tho Germans havo launched the expected heavy counter-attack against tho British on the western front in the Cambrai region. The chief point of attack was not where tho British mado their advance, but further south. The enemy blow was to bo expected, and. that being so it is remarkable that tho Germans wore able to penetrate tho British lines as' they did. At somepoints the enemy drove into the, British lino for a distance of over two miles, and took a number of important positions and two villages. Up to the present tho British have regained most of tho lost territory, including the two villages. The British' are sure to launch strong attacks- in order to bringthcir line back to its old point, and if possible carry it across the Cambrai-St. Quentin canal.
