' Mr.’ Hereford went' out on Thursday to his land on the Bell Block in search of his pigs, accompanied by three artillerymen from the Bell Block stockade ; when in the gully which separates his land from the Maories’ they were fired u poii by a party of natives' from"’'theTiill top. Two of the’ artillerymen 1 escaped Jo ’ the stockade to tell the news;, the others did return that night nor on Friday, s ahd are supposed to be killed.
