THE MAYORAL ELECTION. (To the Editor.)
Sir, — T think Dr. Halley must have been "poking"fun atthe"Working Man" when he wound up his nomination speech by a Latin quotation. Latin looks all very well at the foot of a prescription, but he should not fling it at the heads of people who don't understand, it. I have asked a friend of mine, who went to a grammar school when he was a little boy ; and he tells me that Dr. Halley's quotation, freely interpreted, signifies in the vulgar tongue, "If you want to know how I have done the ratepayers, behold the chandeliers I" — I am, &c, One of George Walker's "Working Men*"
