Mr Chamberlain, in a cheerful letter fco Viscount Tumour, gave an excellent account . of his I health. He said he hoped that he would be back in Parliament at the beginning of next session. Mr Birrell, speaking in the House of Commons, admitted that Judge Rose had stated that widespread and audacious conspiracy was rampant in the West of Ireland. Mr Birrell said that cattle had been driven off farms in a number of individual cases, but the Government had no evidence of a widespread conspiracy/ though- it was the cause a considerable anxiety in certain limited areas. In opening the King's County quarter sessions, Judge Curron said that, although it had never been officially reported peaceable, the county had never been in a worse state of disruption than now.
