CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.
-♦ = ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club was held this afternoon. Tho committee, in its annual report, again congratulated, members upon the successful results oL : the year. In view of its being Exhibition year considerable additions were made to tho stakes, but with continued hue weather and increased attendances the poilicy was amply justified. An item calling for attention is the increased cost of racecourse maintenance, which, the report states, is explained by the very dry weather experienced, and which necessitated full use being made of the water supply, the tracks having to be watered day and night. Members would join the committee in deploring tho death of Mr T. Bassett, who took a great interest in the welfare of the club, and who wa6 for some years a moniber of the committee.
