THE TROOPSHIP CORNWALL.

ARRIVAL AT LYTTELTON,

Tho s.s. Cornwall, whicb is to take the Squth Island battalion of the Eighth Contingent to South Africa, arrived from Wellington this morning. She anchored in the stream at twenty minutes' past eleven o'clock to awaif^being berthed. The wharves where ocean liners lie were full this morning, but room was made for the troopship at No. 5 Wharf, by the removal of the s.s. Rakaia, which was anchored out in the stream. The Cornwall was brought within the moles an hour after she anchored. She has already done service as a transport from this colony, having taken the Sixth New Zealand Contingent to Africa. She is a vessel of 5490 tons gross and 3554 tons net register, built of steel, and schooner-rigged with two masts and red funnel. Her dimensions are : — Length 420f fc, beam 54ft and depth of hold 2-B.7fb. Her engines are the triple expansion principle, and of 505 horse-power nominal. She was built in 1896 at Newcastle by Messrs Hawthorn, Leslie and Co., Limited, and belongs to the Federal Steam Navigation Company, of London. Her commander is Gaptam R. J. Barter.
