O'Connor went off at a great pace, and quiokly showed that his Uoticß were to obtain bo comm-mcling a lead that Burko, whoae finishing p.iwcrs aro remarkable, would not be able to catch hitn. Entering the fourth lap bo had a load of about forty yards, which Burko had roauoed at the ond of the lap to butwoen twenty-fire and thirty. O'Connor was still running strong, and fow thought Burko could catch him, but, putting on spood by a wonderful effort in tho fifth and lust lap, he gradually woro him down, and over w liundrod ynnl>» from homo pa?ecd tho champion, winning b-. fifi con yards, amidst uproarious cheers frorc his local admirers. O'Connor stuck gamely to ii to tho finish. imo - 4 min 38secs.
