The Belle of the Rink. From the Masonic's bar, where drink, And thirsty travellers moor, To the Public Hall, wherein the rink, Its smoothly polished floor ; Where leaps the blood from heart to cheek, Where pulses throb and bound. Where, shod with steel, the skaters wheel, Sweet Lucy can be found. Mark where the there, in circled rings, The throng of gazers through Plies quickly, while each movement brings An added grace to view. What crescent curves,, what airy spires, Wnat arabesques of speed. Her dainty feet form, light and fleet, As sweeps she in the lead ! In garments clad of sombre hue, A charming, neat attire, Escorted by dear Fred so true, Who made a gallant squire ; The rose of beauty wreathes her brow, Her dark eyes gleam askance. At hide-aud-seek on either cheek The roguish dimples dance. As Freddy's arm in her's she links, She looks demure and sweet While on the crowd she slyly winks, Then skates with nimble feet. She fairly revelled in her joy, As rouua the rink they raced j And with her wiles and pleasant smiles, The giddy throng she faced. Now to and fro she softly swings, Loat in the crowd of girls : And now with sudden joy she springs In meteoric whirls. Sound and round, and away again, She storms from place to place, Till once again she's by her swain, Then floats in easy grace. Crown her as belle, ye jealous fates, On whose cheeks the roses bio >m ; And as :-he rules the rink on skates, So Freddy rules the room. ■Soft be her lines ot life as those Her gliding footsteps trace — Bright be her future as the rose That mantles on her face.
