SOUTHERN TELEGRAMS.
(Per Anglo-Australian Telegraph Press Agency.) * Wellington, Thursday, 7,30 p.m. A report regarding Mr Brandon, late chief clerk in the Stamp Office, has been made public, and will be published. It exonerates him from the imputation of improper dealing with publie funds.— The Provincial Government advertise for sale, on the 2nd of November, 500,000 acres of Crown lands in the Wairarapa and East Coast, and 3,200 acres in the Eangitikei district.—About two months ago tho chief clerk in the Stamp Office was suspended for certain irregularities. A Board of Inquiry made a thorough investigation, and reported to his Excellency. The result is that the officer has been fiued £25, his salary has been reduced £100 a year, and he has been ordered to hold himself in readiness to leave Wellington on a short notice. Dunedin, Thursday, 7.30 p.m. Mr Bathgate has reserved his decision in the case against publicans for having two bars, but has convicted Lyons for permitting singing and dancing in his licensed house.—The report of the sur-veyor-states that it would cost £156,880 to permanently complete the streets of the city on the most economical plan .— Two shops in Palmerston were burnt down this morning. They were uninsured.
