The funeral of the late Charles George Evans, only son of the liev. F. G. Evans (whose death at Cambridge was recorded on Wednesday) took place at Cambridge on Friday. The Native Minister, the Hon. ,J. Carroll, attained his fiftieth birthday on Tuesday. In celebration of the event a large number of members of both sides of the House met. The health of the Minister was proposed by Mr Homes, who spoke of the affection and appreciation that members had for their guest not so much as a Minister of the Crown, but for his unfailing largehoartedness, as James Carroll, or better known to them as "Timi Kara. Mr Carroll, in replying, expressed appreciation of the fact that despite their political differences they still were i all the very best of friends, and* their friendship became more closely cemented as the years went by. Mr and Mrs H. R. Cattley celebrated their silver wedding yesterday. Both are old residents of New Plymouth and were married here. During his residence in the tpwn Mr Cattley has taken active interest in many public affairs and has made himself popular. His chief work has been in tho field or friendly society labour. The Colonel Elliott, whose escape from Macedonian brigands was recently referred to in a cablegram, is a brother of the Rev. W. J. Elliott, a Methodist now at Carterton.
