FRUIT GROWERS' ASSOCIATION.
The monthly meeting of the Upper Aloutere branch of the Nelson Association was held on the 21st. There was a very fair attendance of members, and an interesting meeting. Mr H. P. Thompson, president, occupied the chair. After committee business had been disposed of and correspondence dealt with, the matter of the extra charge by auctioneers 'and produce salesmen in Wellington was brought up. Considerable correspondence was read, including a so-called refutatioh, by the linns in question, and stiong approval expressed at the attitude taken up by the Farmers' Distributing Company. It is highly probable that moro will bo heard of this matter and steps taken to combine with other producers with the view of taking drastic measures to deal with those who are considered to be unfairly endeavouring to extort increased profits from the producers. The delegates to tho Provincial Conference were present and Mr A. Wilkens presented an excellent report on the proceedings thereat, and received a hearty vote of thanks. Several suggestions wero made for future meetings and it i:; to bo hoped that every country district will became alive to the necessity for combination, in order to improve what will become alive to the necessity for our leading industry.
