A HEAVY GALE.
DAMAGE IN WAIRARAPA. Press Association. MASTERTON, May 22. Masterton was visited last night by a gale of exceptional violence, the wind reaching the force of a hurricane at times. Considerable damage was done to outbuildings, fences and chimneys. Big trees were uprooted. The gale is still raging. EFFECT AT CARTERTON. W| Press Association. ' CARTERTON, May 22. A howling gale, with intermittent gusts of hurricane force, was experienced here last night. Fences and gates have been blown down. Tiro side of Mr McPhee's traction engine shed was driven in. The gale still rages, but the fierce gusts are fewer, and there are frequent .showers of heavy rain.
