THE PUBLIC LIBRARY.
April was another very successful month at the Canterbury Public Library, niy fewer than 118 new subscribers being enrolled. In addition to these members, 45 returned soldiers took advantage of the free ticket which is granted for 12 months to all returned men. Since the introduction of this privilege over 240 men have enrolled. In tho circulating library 11,685 volumes were issued for home-reading, this being 1458 more than the total issued in April, 1918. In the juvenile library 1898 volumes were taken out as compared with 1605 issued in April last year. A large increase in the number rf books consulted in the reference library has been noticed. Over 2100 references to volumes were made. It is also very gratifying to find the periodicals in the reference library so well used. At present there arc over 100 trade and technical journals available for public use. A large number of new volumes were received during the month, no fewer than 74 being placed in the circulating and 42 in the reference library.
