EON. WILLIAM MONTGOME?.i. Tee death occurred at Little Elver to-day of the Hon. Wjiliani Montgomery, one of Canterbury's pioneer residents. Tne Hon. Wm. Montgomery was born in London in 1821. On leaving school he went to sea, and after 12 yeara at tnas occupation, during part of which time he was in command of a vessel trading in the Mediterranean, he emigrated to Australia. He coma to New Zealand in 1860, and settled in Canterbury. He was chairman of the province's Jir&t road board, the Keatbcote, in 1864, and in 1865 he was elected as the Heathcota representative on the Provincial Council. Mr Montgomery was subsequently provincial treasurer* and for a y'ear and a-half was 3>re"sident of the Executive Council.
