OUT OF WORK.
THE UNEMPLOYMENT PROBLEM. The unemployment register at the Christchurch office of the Department of Labour shows at noon to-day a considerable increase upon the figures at noon yesterday. There are now 95 married men or single men with dependents, and 13 single men without dependents on the list, a total of 108. Most of the men who registered yesterday are general labourers and building trades workers. Twelve men were to have been sent to the Parnassus-Conway Road works last evening, but only six of the men selected put in an appearance at the railway station. Six men are to go next Tuesday. Three men were sent to the Lake Coleridge works yesterday, and three more are to go on Tuesday. Twelve men will be sent to the Ashley Gorge road works next week.. Twelve good men —married men for preference-»-are required for ballast train work on the local railways. The men will be paid 9/- a day. Applicants should call at the Labour Department at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
