CITIZENS' DEFENCE CORPS.

UNIT NO. 6. A meeting of the Avonside, Richmond, Bromley, and Shirley unit of the Citizens' Defence Corps was held in the Avonside Church Schoolroom last evening, Dr_Fox presiding over a good attendance.

The following officers were elected: —Platoon commander, R. S. Ward; platoon Sergeant, A. J. Flanagan; section eoiimmiide'rs, W. IT. Birmingham, H. R. Brittan, IT. B. Wilkinson, and G. T. Grover; unit secretary, J. IT. Shepherd; unit delegate to executive, R. S. Ward. It was decided that the drill, night should be Wednesday, and that it be left in the hands of the platoon commander to see if arrangements could not be made for the-use of the Richmand school grounds. Many new members Avere enrolled, and it.was decided that an active canvass should be instituted to bring the unit up to full strength.

BICCARTON UNIT. A mooting in connection with the Ricearton unit (No. 12) of the Citizens' Defence Corps was held at the Oddfellows' Hall, Upper Biccarton, last evening. Mr W. W. Morton presided over a large attendance. The chairman stated that there wore ninety-six men at present on the roll. The object of the meeting was to recruit up to two hundred and fifty men, in order to form a complete company. Mr G. Harper, of the central unit, outlined the work already done by the

eoi'ps. There were at present 1300 men on the roll, half of whom were trained men.

Captaiu Smith, commander of the district, stated that a uniform would cost about two guineas, and he would like to see Eiccarton district lead in the matter.

Mr Gr. Maginnis was elected secretary for the Eiccarton unit.

A vote of thanks was accorded Mr G. Harper for his. address, and enrolment was proceeded with.
