SUMNER NOTES.
The Sumner and Redcliffs Defence Corps held a parade on Sunday morning at the Bifle Range. There was a big muster, 70 members turning out, despite the rain. The different drills were gone, through by the corps, an hour being spent' in the work. The corps was commanded by Major Beattie. A special meeting of the liedcliffs School Committee was held on Monday night. Present: Messrs S. IT. Cummins. M. A. Smith, W. Mulcoek, G. 1 Tines, and F. Drayton. It was decided to close the school for the Christmas holidays on Friday, December IS. A special meeting of the subscribers to the TCodcliffs Library was held on Friday last, Mr S. 11. Cummins in the chair. The chairman stated that the meeting had been called for the purpose of considering the proposal to rent more central premises. The secretary, Mr F. Drayton, explained to the meeting what the committee had done in the matter, and strongly urged the members to take the premises offered. After a lengthy discussion, it was decided that; the committee be authorised to make all arrangements for leasing the new premises, the members agreeing to put the place in suitable order for housing the library. The ladies of Redeliifs at a meeting last week decided to hold an auction sale of goods for the Poor of Belgium Fund. A strong committee of ladies was set up to canvass the district for funds and goods. The ladies have collected a good assortment of sundries, and the sale will be held on Saturday next in the school. It is
hoped that the citizens -will roll up'and make the sale a success.
The'Christchureh Sailing and Power Boat Club hold a yacht race for boats over 18ft watcrline on Saturday last. Six boats started m the race, which resulted in a win for the Skylark, Warau was second, and Resolute third.
