SEAMEN'S COMPENSATION ACT.
IMPORTANT APPEAL COURT RULING.

The High Court to-day ! delivered an important, judgment in connection with the Seamen's Compensation Act. The second officer in a steamer was killed at sea, and the widow recovered £SOO damages. The Australian Steamship Company appealed against the verdict on the ground that the Commonwealth Parliament had no power to pass an Act relating to extra-territorial matters. The court, by five to one, Sir Edmund Barton being the dissentient, dismissed the appeal.
