COUNTY COUNCILS.

WAIMAIRI. The Waimairi County Council met vesterday. Mr S. A. Staples was re-appointed Icliairman for the coming year, and the following committees were elected:— Works: Messrs W. Nicholls • (chairman), J. Fitzpatrick, E. Hawke, T. D. Boag, \V. P. Spencer, and S. A. Staples. Finance Committee: Messrs S. Bullock (chairman), J. Lee, G. E. Curry, T. D. Boag, W. Nicholls, R. W. Hawke, and S. A. Staples. By-laws: Messrs 6. E. Curry (chairman), R. W- Hawke, J. Fitzpatrick,- S. Bullock, W. Nicholls, J. Lee, and S. A, staples. River Styx Committee: Messrs W. P. Spencer (chairman), J. Fitzpatrick, F. Sisson, "VV. Nicholls, J. Lee, and S. A. Staples. Lighting Committee: Messrs S. A. Staples (chairman), S. Bullock, G. E. Curry, R. W. Hawke, W. Nicholls, F. Sisson, and T. D. Boag. It was decided to meet on the second Monday in each .month at 1.30 p.m.

MALVERN. The monthly meeting of the Malvern County Council was held yesterday, all members attending. The chairman welcomed three new members —Crs Cullen, Hawke, and R. W. Johnson —and a resolution was passed expressing appreciation of the services of the retiring members, Crs Bedford, Johnson, and Deans. The chairman reported having arranged for a renewal of the £2OOO loan for one year, and that the cleaning of the main races had been finished. The caretakers were instructed to .report on the condition of all private races, and take immediate action where necessary to clean them. Crs Cullen and Hawke were appointed to inspect the Greemlale auxiliary race with a view to increasing the supply. Xt was decided to put small bridges over eertain races on the main roads, and also to repair some of the deeper open crossings. It was resolved that the attention oi the Electrical transmission Department be drawn to the danger of the large spools left by them on the Bealey Road. The question of the sale of cocksfoot on the roads was left in the hands of the chairman.

Cr Knight was unanimously elected chairman for the ensuing year.
