ARRANGEMENTS FOR SATURDAY.

The Mayor (Mr 11. Holland) presided over a meeting of the ladies' executive committee of the Huntly Disaster Belief Fund yesterday afternoon. .It was reported that donations of flowers in large quantities were promised for Saturday, for the sale and collection by the school children. The. following schools have signified their intention of assisting:—Addington, Belfast, Christchurch East, Christchurch West, Elmwood, Somerfield, Sydenham, and Wharenui.

The secretary of the North Canterbury Public Schools' Amateur Athletic Association reported that Miss Chaplin had "been appointed the association's representative to wait on the committee. Several suggestions were forwarded as to the best arrangements for the collection, and the letter, also stated that the secretary was communicating with the Marist Brothers school

in regard to securing-their assistance. . A Teniufca lady wrote to tlie Mayor offering flowers to be sold on behalf of the Belgian children. Mr Gilby reported that he had replied stating that donations for Saturday's collections would be welcomed. He also stated that the Marist Brothers children wished to assist, but that the services of the Boy Scouts would not be available.

It was decided to request the teachers to allow the girls to remain, so that the collection could be extended as fol-lows:-—Three relays, 8.30 to 11.30, 11.30 to 2.30, and 2.30 to 5.30. It was stated that from - 6 p.m. until 9.30 p.m. a number of adults had arranged to carry on the collection. It was resolved, failing the co-operation <}f the Boy Scouts, to request the headmasters of the -following schools to send five of their most trustworthy boys each to assist in connection with the collection:- — Addington, Belfast, Christehurch East, Christehurch West, ;Elmwood, Somerfield"'Sydenham, Wharenui, Sumner, New Brighton, and Marist Brothers.
