SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the executive of the North Canterbury School Committees' Association was held at the East- Christchurch School on Thursday evening. There was a good attendance of members, presided over by Mr J. Butterfield (president). Correspondence was received f rom ;the hon. secretary of the Teachers' Institute (Mr A. C. Maxwell), suggesting that a date early in the New Year be arranged for an evening by the members of the institute, instead of December 3, as previously fixed. It was agreed that it would be more convenient after the holiday vacation.
Arrangements were made to draw up a circular to send to the various" school committees who are not connected with the association.
A letter was received from the hon. secretary of the North Lihwood School regarding the hon. secretary of the association refusing to accept Mr Evans's explanation concerning a newspaper paragraph. After considerable discussion a reply was drafted to be sent to the Linwood committee. The question of t>e secretary's resignation was mentioned by the president, who said a difference of opinion had arisen owing to the incident in connection-with the institute. After much discussion the matter was adjourned sine die.
