CHILDREN'S CONVALESCENT COTTAGE.
A general meeting of the committee of the Children's Convalescent Cottage, New Brighton, was held on Tuesday. It was stated that the finances of the institution were at a low ebb, this being ascribed to various causes, possibly because the public might be of opinion that the funds from the late Mrs Townend's bequest would be immediately available. On the contrary, no income could be derived from , that source until tfie end of 1915. It was decided to hold a jumble sale in March next. The hope was expressed that subscribers would not withdraw their usual donations, as there are more children to be relieved than usual, on account of sickness or distress of one kind and another. The fund set apart for repairs and improvements had been given up, and was already expended. Gifts were, acknowledged from the following:—Meat, Belfast Freezing Works; sweets, Mr Gardner and Mrs Stewart; thr'eC chair seats, Miss - Higgins; two tins biscuits, Aulsebrook and Co.; flowers, Mrs Longstaff ; seeds, Mrs Clark; sweets, Mrs Grange; apples, Anonymous.
