FARMERS' UNION.
NORTH CANTERBURY EXECUTIVE MONTHLY MEETING. The North Canterbury Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union met this afternoon, Mr C. H. Ensor presiding. There were also present: Messrs G. W. Leadley, B. Evans, S. Webb, Isaac Andrew, C. G. Newton, J. W. Patchett, W. Bailey, J. B: Cullen, H. G. Livingstone, F. G. Horrell, S. Weld,-and B. Seth Smith. A letter was received from the Prime Minister stating that the union's resolution in regard to shipping space for the export of produce would receiye careful consideration. - The District Eailway Traffic Manager wrote replying to the union 's letter concerning the conveyance of milk and cream cans. He said the tariff in providing a low rate for milk made a condition that owners" must take all risk, and must load and unload.. He was unable to set aside this condition, and regretted that he could not, under the circumstances, take any action in the matter. —The letter was received, and consideration of the matter ,was deferred. Mr E. J. Jack, Dominion secretary of the union, telegraphed that the , Dominion president recommended the Canterbury Executive to, support the Trades Council's appeal for help for the survivors of the Huntly disaster. —The matter was left in the hands of the chairman to see what could be done.
