TUBERCULOUS CHILDREN.

FRESH AIR HOME SCHEME. AMBERLEY SITE DECLINED. A report by Dr. G. J. Blackmore, the North Canterbury Hospital Board 's medical director of tuberculosis institutions, concerning the proposal to provide a fresh air home for children, together with accommodation at the Cashmere Hills Sanatorium, for children suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis, was considered at the board's meeting this morning. It accompanied the monthly report of the. Public Health Committee of the board. The Public Health Committee recommended that the erection of the home for children suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis be proceeded with as early as possible, and that it be erected on a site immediately above the Sanatorium, on land belonging to the board. Several letters had been received, urging the adoption of the Amberley site for. the Open Air Home for Children, but the committee asked that consideration be deferred until further information was available, as there were other sites uuder consideration. The board went into committee to discuss Dr. Blackmore's report and the committee's recommendation. When the board resumed in open meeting, it was reported that the committee's recommendation, that the home for treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis be proceeded with, had been adopted, with the addition that the cost should not exceed £2OOO. This will leave something over £SOOO for the fresh air home. The board decided not to adopt the Amberley site for the fresh air homes.
