LYTTELTON PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION.
JOINS CANTERBURY COMMITTEE. *'■'-. A general meeting of the Lyttelton Patriotic Association was held in the Council Chambers last evening, the Mayor, Mi- J. R. Webb, presiding. The report of the executive committee, which was adopted, stated that a send-off had been given the local members of the Expeditionary Force, and that a total sum of £66 9/- had been collected to date, including £5 from the Lyttelton staff of the Union Steam Ship Company. A circular letter had been forwarded to various firms and organisations asking for support. Applications had also been received from several members of the Royal Navy Reserve for assistance for their wives, but though representations had been made to the Minister of Defence, no reply had been received.* It was r,egretted that no opportunity had been given to organise a demonstration to farewell the Canterbury men on their departure from Lyttelton. A communication was received from the committee of the Canterbury Patriotic Association suggesting that Lyttelton should join hands with the larger body, and the two funds become amalgamated. It was pointed out that tliis would obviate any danger of overlapping. Mr E. U. Just said that through Lyttelton V delay insetting to work many local contributions had gone into the coffers of the Canterbury Patriotic Fund. He thought it better to amalgamate. The general feeling of the meeting was in favour of falling in with the course suggested by the letter, and on the motion of Rev. J. R. Hewland, seconded by Mr N. C. Schumacher, it was decided to amalgamate with the Canterbury Patriotic Association, it being suggested that the Mayor of Lyttelton should act as one of the committee, and that the attention of the Christchurch committee' be drawn to any cases deflervin^iattenUon..ia..l4jrtteltoa 2
