ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE.

The Entertainment Committee which is arranging a "send off" for the Canterbury Contingent ot the Expeditionary Force met this afternoon, Mr 11. ,T. Otlcy presiding in the absence of Mr «T. J. Oougall. Mr Nordou reported that the officials of the Patriotic. Fund had been invited to be present at the social, and had :«eeopte«.l. He also asked the • subeonnhittee in charge of the seating arrangements to arrange a table and seating accommodation for specially invited guests. Mr W. W. Qharters said that lie had already- iit.&de such an- arrangement. It was further stated that those who had been invited were paving for, themselves as wer,e the members of the committee, but the response from the public was vc-'v poor at present, only £26 having been, received from the sale of tickets. Mr Staples said that he had heard numerous complaints regarding the price charged for the tickets, and ho thought it. should be made known that the cost of the tickets had also to provide for the entertainment of the troops. There was an idea about that the committee was.going to make a profit out of the sale'of tickets, and he wanted this, idea . dispelled. Mr Otley aaid that he wanted it understood that arrangements had now been made for ladies to be present, and he hoped to see many present. Mr Nordou said he had arranged that

the "Harry Lauder" flag should be presented to the Officer Commanding the District at the social. Permission is being obtained for Territorials to attend in uniform, if they so desire. CANTERBURY PATRIOTIC FUND. This fund is established with the following objects:—(a) To provide for those dependent on our volunteers should it be found necessary; (b) to assist volunteers returning physically unfit until sucli time as they are again restored to health; (c) generally to apply the funds in such manner as the executive may deem M necessary to alleviate suffering and distress caused by the present crisis. Donations '"may be forwarded to his Worship tlie Mayor of Christciiurch, the Town Clerk, or the secretary (Mr R. T. A meeting of the permanent executive |of the Canterbury Patriotic Fund was held this morning, the Mayor (Mr H. Holland) presiding. There were also present Messrs W. 'Reece, Sorensen, A. H. Turnbull, Whiting, F. W. Hobbs, Cyrus .Williams, and Colonel Chaffey. The South Canterbury Safety Committee notified that it was of opinion that for the purpose of more convenient administration it would be better for the committee to retain in the meanwhile the South Canterbury fund in its own hands. An invitation for members to attend the send-off to . the Expeditionary Force to-morrow night was accepted. A letter was received from the St. John Ambulance Association regarding damage to collection boxes. —-It was decided -<that the pay half the cost of N repairing them. The treasurer reported that there was a total ,of £30,781 in hand. It was decided to. place £10,500 with the Christ- ' church City Council at call. The secre-, tary was instructed to write to the councils of adjacent boroughs and to, the Lyttelton Harbour Board intimating that the committee was prepared to advance money at) 4 per cent, for a maximum period" of six months. Miss Cardale was appointed inspector for the fund in the meantime. It was decided that the committees of the Citizens' Benevolent Association and the Lady Liverpool Fund be asked to nominate three! member? to form a committee to report all cafes coming under their notice. ' The Mayor and secretary were authorised to grant temporary : relief. It was decided that all claims be paid in cash.
