DEFENDERS DISFRANCHISED.
MODERATE LEAGUE PROTESTS. A telegram, of which the following is a copy, was dispatched to the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. W. P. Massey, by the Canterbury executive of the Moderate League this morning:— "Reported in Press that Government has decided to preceed with General Elections on original date. Canterbury Committee Moderate * League trust report .incorrect, but if correct regret decision, as they consider the ensuing necessary organisation of parties undesirable at present juncture. If statement correct, respectfully request Government to make special provision for giving members Expeditionary Force opportunity to record their votes on licensing question, as otherwise great change might be effected in condition of country during their absence and without their approval. Strongly feel that the defenders of the Empire should not be disfranchised.— (Signed) Alex. Boyle, W. M. Joynt, P. E. Graham, jun., Arnaud McKellar, R. C. Bishop, P. A. Laurie, lion, sec."
