BOXING MATTERS.
*"on the Track of the Great: Recollections of a Special Correspondent." ByAubrey Stanhope. Eveleigh Nash, London.
THE SUN AND THE SPORTS CLUB. The Christchurch Sports Club is extending its boycott against THE SUN. As'" announced yesterday, the executive decided to penalise THE SUN for its candid criticism by refusing to advertise its fixtures in our columns. The first fruits of this policy were reaped by the club last night. The match between Thompson and Olsen was not advertised in last night's SUN, and votaries of the sport stayed away with such unanimity that the club had a very poor house. So sparsely filled were the higherpriced seats that the occupants of the "pit" were invited to come forward and fill them, which they did with enthusiasm. When THE SUN reporter applied for admission, as usual, to the stage, he was informed that the executive had decided to exclude him from the ringside. Apparently the Sports Club desires to further penalise the followers of boxing by preventing THE SUN representative from being in a position where he can see properly. Accordingly, the notes of last night's match were made from the body of the hall, but the circumstance does not prevent THE SUN publishing a coherent account of the rather extraordinary contest that took place. " It only needs a few more such exhibitions to destroy interest in the sport locally, if not to kill it altogether.
