THE DRIVERS' AWARD.
NICE POINT DECIDED. When the Arbitration Court sut in Christchurch in April'last, Mr If. Hunter, secretary of the Drivers' Union, applied to have the Glemnore Brick Companv joined as parties to the drivers' award. The application was opposed by Mr F. Cooper, of the Employers' Association, on |he ground that the company had entered into an industrial agreement with a new union which was formed during the strike period. Mr Hunter pointed out that the company had been inadvertently omitted from the list of employers who were parties to the award. He also contested the right of the company to enter into an industrial agreement which would"" override the award. He also contended that the officials of the new union who signed the agreement were members of the Drivers' Union, and that the company had no legal right to ma!:e an industrial agreement with members of the Drivers' Union.
