BRASS BAND.

The 36th annual meeting of the Rangiora Brass Band was held last evening at the baud's room, the president (Mr IT. Dix) presiding over a very large attendance. The balance-sheet for the year showed receipts £l4O 7/1, and expenditure £l3B 1-/1, leaving a credit balance of £1 14/4, whilst the assets of the club were valued at over £630.

Seven resignations were received during the year, and seven new members were elected. It was decided to enter the band for the forthcoming contest, to be held at Christ-church in November, and that two concerts be given in the meantime to raise funds towards the expenses in that connection.

Four new members were elected during the evening. It was decided to hold a social during the year, and a committee of twelve was appointed to make the necessary arrangements. Mr H. Dix offered a guinea as a prize for the best attendance at practice during the coming year. Mr C. I. Jennings, a similar amount towards the contest expenses. It was decided that the concert for the Open-air Fund be given on Sunday, July 26. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — Patron, Hon. D. Buddo, M.P. (reelected); president, Mr H. Dix (reelected); vice-presidents, Messrs J. B. Cresswell, 0. I. Jennings, S. Shankland, B. P. Edwards, alid Dr Will; conductor, Mr J. Noble (re-elected); bandmaster, Mr W. Harman (re-elected); drum-major, Mr D. W. L. Menrtcns (reelected); sergeant, Mr G. Harlow; corporal, Mr W. Keir; secretary, Mr W. Lace; treasurer, Mr A. Prestney; custodian, Mr W. Lane; committee, Messrs J. Purdoh, L. Devlin, G. Harlow, * W. Hortou, A. Prestney, and W. Keir; auditors, Messrs G. Harlow and W. Keir.

During the evening the following long-service medals were presented by the president: —W. Harman, 27 years; G. Harlow, 18 years; R. Bell, nine years; H. Miles and A. Palmer, six years; P. Withers and R. Lace, three years.

NORTHERN AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

, The sub-committees of the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association met yesterday morning to revise the programme for the coming show to be held at Rangiora on November 5 and 6, and submitted their recommendations to the General Committee, which met in the afternoon. The following were present:—Messrs A. Mcintosh, president (chairman), J. D. Wyllie, K. Mcintosh, B. Fergusson, F. Merrin, Jas. Wyllie, R. Mcintosh, W. Stalker, Peach, P. L. Hanna, J. S. Heath, W. A. Kilcher, W. Scoon, G. E. Skevington, J. T. Wright, T. Leech, P. Wyllie, .J. W. Foster, J. E. Burns, T. Skevington, and J. Fleming. Correspondence was received from the Marlborough Association, informing the association that their show would be held on/October 27 and 28.

Mr T. 1?. Cresswell wrote, tendering his resignation, and Mr S. A< Clark was elected to fill the vacancy. - The Rangiora Brass Band wrote, asking permission to use the show grounds for practice on Sunday .-mornings:— Granted, subject to the right of withdrawal. It was decided to invite two Government veterinary surgeons to be present on show day. The annual horse parade was fixed for September 29. The following committees' were reelected as last year: —Ground, Finance, Parade, and Protests.
