MELANESIAN MISSION.
ANNUAL MEETING. A meeting of the Melanesian Mission was held at St. "Michael'a Schoolroom )a.ii evening, the Rov. Canon Carriugton in the chair. After the minutes of the previous meeting and the annual report had been read by the secretary, the chairman addressed the meeting. Speaking to the report, Dean (Jarrington said that although the'"subscriptions had not quite reached the amount collected last year, still the nuances were by no means in an unsatisfactory condition. In speaking of the missionaries, Dean Carriugton emphasised the extraordinary humility and reticence that marked their work. There were a great many people, said the Dean, who prospered by advertising, putting all particulars before the public iu the most glowing way. The Meianesian Mission, on the other hand, had, from the very first, proceeded on the contrary principle, aiid it was only when gathered round the fireside (hat the romantic, stories of mission work were unfolded.
During the course of the eveuiug, the L'ev. I' 1 . N. Taylor and Sister Kate also addressed the gathering. The meeting closed with a benediction.
