GALE IN SOUTH.

Press Association. INVERCARGILL, June 2. After an exceptionally fine summer and autumn, Southland is having its first taste of winter. The weather tonight is boisterous, wet, and cold. A report from the Bluff to-night states that the Maitai, for Melbourne, via Hobart, is still, at the wharf, being unable to clear the port owing to a very heavy gale which sprang up this afternoon. Unless there is a decided lull the vessel will be unable to sail tonight. ■
