Tubbs, who has played little competitive golf lately, played an. excellent game to within the last few holes. He developed "nerves" towards the close but steadied at the seventeenth hole. - Ouimet played in slack fashion and' did not seem to hit hard enough. There was a great ovation as Tubbs scrambled home. . . Ball and Hambro kept* together all the way. Ball was one up at the turn, but Hambro got square at the fourteenth. Lockhart was four up at the turn and was dorniy two, but Whitton Won the last two, squaring. Subsequently after a half at the nineteenth, he lost the twentieth. ,

The Hon. Michael Seott went out in thirty-six and turned three up.

Herreshdff was four down and five to play, but won the next four holes. He cut his approach to the last hole and was too strong and Scott holed out in four to five and won. Evans, whom Whitton defeated in the second round, is the American intercollegiate champion. He was the only American defeated during the day.
