SHIPPING NOTES. Transhipments from Sydney to Lyttelton ex the Willochra, transhipping at Wellington, arrived per the Wahine this morning. Australia, flagship of the Australian Navy, was taken to Sutherland Dock, Sydney, for an overhaul last week. As" the docking of this immense vessel was no ordinary event, special precautions were taken against any risks. So well were tlffc arrangements carried out that the big -vessel was successfully docked without any trouble. Four of Messrs J. Fcnwick and Co.'s tugs, the Heroic, Heroine, Hero, and Ncwburg, were made fast to the Australia, and, with the assistance of her own steam, she was placed in the dock within an hour from the time she left Farm Cove. The Union Company's R.M.S. Tahiti arrived at Wellington from San Francisco this morning. The southern portion of her mails will arrive by the Maori to-morrow morning. The Union Company's - training steamer Apai-ima arrived in port this morning, and on completing discharge of the Lyttelton portion of her cargo proceeds to Dunedin. This morning the Kaiapoj Shipping Company's steamer Kairaki was floated out ot dock. TAINUI, FROM LONDON. Late on Tuesday night the Shaw, Savill' liner Tainui arrived, in Wellington from Lond6n on her fourteenth voyage. She brought a comparatively small number of immigrants, there being only 200 passengers in the third class. The outward journey was quite uneventful, and the roughest weather was that j experienced in Cook Strait. "It blew pretty hard," said an officer, "but it did not affect us much." London was left on April 2 last, and Plymouth two days later. The first call was made at Teneriffe on April 9, and from there the Tainui was favoured with fine weather to Cape Town. At the South' African port, which was reached at 9 a.m. on the 24th, 1000 tons of bunker coal were taken

aboard, and the vessel left the same evening for Hobart. On the run across the South'era Ocean exceptionally fine weather was experienced. A satisfactory run was made from Hobart to Wellington. The number of passengers booked for Wellington was 176—157 of whom were in the third class. N.Z. SHIPPING COMPANY. . . Word has been received that the New Zealand Shipping Company's new steamer Hdroirata attained a speed of 153 knots on heir trial trip. The Ruahine left Timaru at 1 o'clock this morning for Port Chalmers, in continuation of her Homeward loading. The Opawa arrived at Wellington thU morning, and leaves on Saturday' for London. The Tongariro leaver Auckland on Tuesday for Tokoinaru Bay. The ltimutaka leaves Auckland on Stturday for Gisborne.
