Mr Justice Stringer leaves for the north to-night. Father Price returned by the Wahine this morning.

Mr E. Orton Bradley left for the north last evening. Mr Geo. Rutherford, of Springbank, is at present in town.

Mr Thos. Burt, of Dunedin, went north by the ferry steamer last evening. Mr H. C, Schlaadt, of Dunedin, went south by the first express this morning:

Mr G. A. Keys, postmaster at Mosgiei, and formerly of Sheffield, has retired on superannuation, after 40 years of service. The Mayor' of Mosgiel and a number of residents made Mr and Mrs Keys a handsome presentation as a mark of Iheir esteem and appreciation of kindness and courtesy. ■ Mrs Naldcr, of Nova Scotia, a lady who has for ten years been travelling and lecturing in the interests of the Paridita "Bamabai's Mukti ( Mission, has arrived in Christchurch, accompanied by Mrs Blair-Mason, secretary for the mission in Duncdin. It is their intention to hold a scries of meetings here in aid of the mission work.

At the Masonic Hotel last -evening, Mr. G. Rich, one of the 'most prominent officers of the Christchurch Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association, was made a presentation on the occasion of his removal to Kumara. There was, a large number of swimming enthusiasts present, presided over by Mr W. E. D. who referred; to. the'good work, done by Mr. Rich .as inter-club .handicapper, and the assistance he had given to the various swimming clubs of Canterbury. The memento given to Mr Rich was a stop-watch. Several other speakers,- representing different clubs, and societies, also spoke in praise ,of the work done by Mr Rich, and during the evening several toasts were honoured and an excellent musical entertainment enjoyedi
