BATTLE OF TAMPICO.
FEDERALS DESPERATE RESISTANCE.
By Cable. —Press Association. —Copyright. WASHINGTON, May 14. The rebels encountered a desperate resistance before they captured Tampico. Heavy fighting continues around the city. It is believed that the Federals are fighting a rearguard action. The Constitutionalists hold the railroads between Tampico and Monterey. The losses on both sides are unknown.
The State Department understands that the Federals evacuated Tampico, being unable to withstand the fury of the Constitutionalists' attack.
During the time the bodies of the two seamen : killed in Mexico were lying in state at Philadelphia, crowds of people filled the hall, and fought for places, from which to view the bodies, Many women fainted, and two men were seriously injured,- one probably fatally.
