OHOKA. Hal-vest thanksgiving services were conducted at tlie Anglican Church, Ohoka., on Sunday last. The church was tastefully decorated by the members and the services were impressive. The Lenten season was observed with due solemnity, the week-night lecture being, given by the vicar, Rev. Fraer. On Good Friday a three-hours' service was conducted, the Yicar of Oxford preaching impressively at intervals on "The Seven Words from the Cross." The season is too dry even for this district, which is one of the last to suffer, but farmers are very busy preparing for the winter. As threshing proceeds, varied results are reported as to the yield, which does not seem to be up to expectations. An absence of

grumbling, however, makes us feel that the farmers are generally satisfied. Many farms in the district are changing hands. GLENTUNNEL. The weather in the Glentunnel district took a sudden change on Monday night. Monday was warm, with a gentle nor'-wester blowing; but during the

night the wind changed the southwest and heavy rain commenced to Sail and continued without intermission for-. tlie ? greater part of Tuesday. The rain will have a good effect on the pastures and turnip crops. » At a meeting of the committee of the Presbyterian Church Bazaar, a balance of about £l5O was sTiown,-and this Was considered eminently satisfactory." A hearty vote of thanks -was passed to those kind friends in Christchurch w r ho so''liberally assisted the fund for the erection of a Presbyterian Church in Glentunnel. BANKS PENINSULA. The Akaroa Bowling Club closed its green for playing on Saturday afternoon, w T lien a number of members met to. have the' last game of the season. The green will be redressed and levelled during the winter. On the Coronation Library being opened on Monday evening it was. found that the door of the library room had been forced open and a number of books anoi papers disturbed. It is not yet if anything is missing. Tire matter was brought- under "the notiee of the police, who are. making investigations.

The annual harvest thanksgiving services were held at St. Peter's Church on Sunday last. The church w r as prettily decorated with flower?,> and offerings of fruit and .vegetables w r ere placed amongst tlie decorations. * The services were taken by the the Rev. A. H. Julius. At the morning service the brethren of the Oddfellows' Lodge attended, and were welcome#'"by the 1 Yicar, who addressed them in an intercession sermon.
