Twenty-six people were killed at Trinadad, through the burning of the strikers' tents when the State troops shelled them with njachine guns. v Three women and a number of babies are among the dead. One man tried to save his baby sister who scrambled out of the trench in which the strikers had taken refuge. The explosives used by the strikers burst, killing several during the bombardment. It is believed that women and children were suffocated when they took refuge in the cave near the tent colony.
