Mr D. K. Macdonald, of Timaru, is in town.

The Hon. R, Heaton Rhodes, Post-master-General, left for Wellington last night. Amongst those who went to Wellington last night were the Rev. Father O'Connell and the Rev. Father Herring. Messrs H. Curtis, E. G. Temple (Ashburton), W. K. Macdonald (Timaru), and E. Ellison (Auckland), are staying at Coker's Hotel. It is stated that Mr R. W. Hanna will be a candidate for the vacancy on the Riccarton Borough Council, caused by the resignation of Councillor George. Amongst those staying at Warner's Hotel are: —Mr Geo. Rutherford (Springbank), Count Louis de Vries (Sydney),"and Mr H. Atkinson (Hanmer). Miss Alice Jones, on severing her connection with Redf era's Arcade, Rangiora, after eight years' faithful service, was the recipient of a present from the firm on the occasion of her approaching marriage. Mischa Elman, the Russian violinist, is to sail from San Francisco by the Sonoma on May 5. His season will open in Melbourne on May 30. Mr Fredk. Shipman has his arrangements in hand.

A telegram from Bombay to the London newspapers of March. 8- states that Lord Islington, chairman of the Royal Commission on Public Services, and Mr Sly, of the same Commission, yere successfully shooting at,Balaghat, in the Central Provinces. They had already bagged five tigers. On the New Brighton tennis courts on Saturday afternoon several of the members said good-bye to the Kev. A. H. Dean Regnault, S.M.) to Belgium, where there will be a con-' ference of delegates from all provinces. Dean Eegnatilt's term as Provincial of the Marist Order in New Zealand has expired. He has proved himself a most capable administrator, and the present flourishing state of the Order in New Zealand, both spiritual and material, is due to his zeal and, indefatigable energy.
