PERSONAL.

Vice Regal.—His Excellency the Governor and the Countess of Liverpool left for Wellington last evening. Dr Mirams left for Wellington last night.

Mr J. W. H. Scotland leaves for Wellington by to-night's ferry boat. Sir Joseph Ward and Lady Ward 'were passengers for Wellington by the ferry steamer last night. Dr and Mrs Lipscombe, of Sydney, arrived from Wellington this morning. They are staying at Warner's Hotel.

Mr and Mrs Woodhouse and Mrs Flux, visitors from England, are staying at the United Service Hotel. Captain Crawford, Captain Hill, and Captain Eastwood were among the passengers for. Wellington last night. Mr W. E. Agar, President of the Lyttelton Industrial Union of Workers, returned from Wellington this morning. Mr P. M. Velvin, the new director of the Boys' Gordon Hall, arrived in Christchurch from America on Saturday. Mr H. A. Adley, secretary to the Chamber of Commerce, is at present on holiday and will return next Tuesday. ~

Owing to slight- indisposition, the Hon. R. Heaton Rhodes has postponed his departure for Wellington until tomorrow, -v

Mr R. A. Armstrong, organiser for the Employers' Federation, is in town. He leaves for the north to-morrow night. x

Mr J. R. Triggs, Conciliation Commissioner, leaves for «Dunedin on',' the 30th, to hear the Port Chalmers Waterside Workers' dispute.

Mr R. G. Robinson, superintendent of State Nurseries and Plantations for the South Island, has been visiting Christchurch. He left to-day for" the North Otago district.

„• At last evening's meeting of the Avon Rowing Club, a motion of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr E. C. Ashby was passed. Mr Ashby was one of the club's vicepresidents. Mr Fred Hennings, who has had charge of the P6rt Ahuriri oflice of the Union Company, has been appointed business manager and secretary to the "Fiji Times" Company. Mr Hennings is a native of Fiji, and is well-known as a purser on several of the 'Union Company's boats. He took up shore duties at Dunedin nearly three years ago.
