THE WEEK'S DOINGS. MADDISON TROPHY COMPETITION. The principal event of the week was the Maddison Singles Competition, in which the Singles Champions of the Clubs in the Christchurch Centre engage to find the champion of them all. For the greater part of the afternoon, and until the last game had started, the weather and green conditions were ideal. Soon after the final was started rain commenced to fall, and when the 10 th head'had been reached there was such a downpour that further play was impossible. The score was then 7 all, the two players being Jack (Sydenham) and Torrance (Christchurch): The game will be played again, starting do novo. The date will be fixed by the Centre executive.

The hero of the tournament was undoubtedly Jack, the Sydenham rep. He played a wonderful game against Gampbell—probably he has never played a better game in his life. His drawing was "®Very accurate, and his yard on shots rested his opponent's shot bowls time and again. It was a great game, and Jack was warmly congratulated on his win over such a redoubtable opponent. Torrance (Christchurch) and Brackenridge (Sunnyside) had a close game in the other semi-final. Torrance wanted two in the last head to win, and Brackenridge, who played very raggedly at the finish, did not get near the kitty at all. Torrance got two shots without playing > his last bowl. OPAWA CLUB. There has been very little play this week on the Opawa green. In the Jones Trophy and Club Singles Championship the following have come through into the final:—B. Best with 5 wins, 4 losses; W. Chapman with 5 wins, 1 loss; C. Lucas with 6 wins,, 1 loss, and W. Spiller 6 wins, 3 losses. In the .Championship Doubles Taylor and Spiller have won, getting a 2-point win over Best and Lucas. They will now represent their club in the final championship matches to be plaved on Saturday.

SYDENHAM CLUB. In the Glub Doubles, Austin and Dickensen lead with 4 wins 1 loss, while Robertson and Freeman have 4 wins and 2 losses. Austin and Dickensen lost to Scott and Butler, who have 2 wins 1 loss. Robertson and Freeman last to Austin and Dickensen and also to Duffy aud Merriman, the latter players having 1 win 2 losses.

UNITED CLUB. Brackenridge won the Championship Singles. In the Championship Doubles, Mercer and Stark won section A, and Eraser and Brown jun. won section B. The winner will represent United in the Championship Doubles matches to be decided on Saturday. Wilson's Rangiora rink was to have met Spiller's United rink in a Centre badge match yesterday, only the weather prevented the game being played. It will decided on the United green on Saturday. A match was tb . have been played against Canterbury tJlub on Saturday, but it has been postponed, as the Canterbury men wish to get some important club matches decided without delay.

CHEISTCHURCH CLUB. The semi-finals for the Champion Doubles were played yesterday afternoon, when Br Pairroan and Dr Sandstein beat Gr. Lewis and T. Bunting by 26 to 8, and W. Helliwell and A. S. Gurney beat J. Caughley and R. Davies by 27 to 8. The winners will play the final on Friday afternoon.

LINWOOD CLUB. Price's rink won its last game against F. Redpatbis rink, and secured the championship without one loss. Radford and Ellis won the Club Doubles championship against Partridge and Snell. The winners played a sound drawing game, and were holding their opponents all the time. They scored very consistently, and ran out four points to the good. A pot of five to Snell made the losers' score one better than it might have been. Snell won the Champion Singles, beating Howarth and Cooper in succession.

CANTERBURY CLUB. In the Argyll Singles, Alexander beat Eonayne 20 —17, and he meets Gray in the final. The finals for the Champion Doubles were played yesterday, and resulted in Lowry and Brown defeating Eonayne and English and Alexander and White in the respective sections. This pair will represent the Canterbury Club in the Centre's Doubles championship.

EDGEWARE v. ST. ALBANS. The following will represent Edgeware in the Pennant match with St. Albans on Saturday:— On St. Albans • green —C. Hill, W. G. Brass, W. J. Shearman and H. West (s); J. W. Dollan, C. E. Otley, P. L. Davies and JL D. Colville (s); On Edge ware green —J. Jowsey, E. AUnutt, J. Chetwin, and P. Matson (s); A. Hardy, J. Herd, W. E. Wright, and J. Taylor (s). The following will represent Edgeware in a friendly match against St. Albans, on the Edgeware green:—F. Lord, W. Longton, W. Pearce, and J. W. Beanland (s); G. Hyde, E. Gilbert, E. Wallace, and J. Lorimer (s); J. A. Blank, J. Cree, F. W. Bolt, and T. Martin (s).
