The New South Wales Rugby Union intends to ask that the New Zealand team which is to visit Australia during the coming winter may be permitted to j>lay an extra match for the benefit of the Australian Olympic Representative Fund.

The Board of Control of Lancaster Park has decided to give holders of membership tickets the right to take any friend into the members' enclosure during the benefit match between the Australian cricketers and the Canterbury team, on payment of 2/6 for each day.

Billy Shields, the Palmerston North featherweight, who has been in Australia for some time past, was beaten by one George James in a ten-rounds bout at a recent Sydney Stadium'matinee—at least, it was intended to be a ten-round go. James is a strong and clever fighter, and lie soon "got all over" Shields. In the third round a punch on the chin made Shields very groggy, and a few seconds later the referee stopped the bout and declared James the winner.
