BARQUE IN A GALE. CREW FIGHT FOR THEIR. LIVES. Press Association. ( DUNEDIN, February 13. The iron barque Sobo, of 945 tons, liad an exceedingly rough pasage from Port Huon, ; Tasmania, to Dunedin. She made port last night showing signs of a severe buffeting. , ■ Near Solanders, mountainous seas were experienced, and the crew had a severe fight to keep the ship affoat. She was loaded with hardwood, and, when fifty miles west of Solanders, a gale drove the seas over her. The cargo began to shift, and the vessel listed to starboard. . - -. ■ Her position' became critical, and it was found necessary to cut away the sails and 1 gear; also to jettison the deck cargo; of logs. ; All the lockers in the forecastle were Washed out, and the lifeboat, which became entangled with the gear, had to be set adrift over r board. Several of the crew were swept overboard, but fortunately managed to cling to the cargo and gear, and fight their way back on to the deck. After the gale abated the vessel made a good passage to the Nuggetsr. Captain Murc-hison was in command.
