COMMANDEERED MEAT.

Mr Baker, Financial Secretary to the ( War Office, m reply to Mr Thome, said between August and December the army had commandeered 40,190,973 pounds of frozen beef, and 10,497,488 pounds of frozen mutton, and had paid current rates. Mr Thome suggested that Australian and New Zealand meat not required for the troops be sold to the public at cost price. Mr Baker said the Government were considering the manner of disposal of such meat.
