Notes from Grey month. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

SREYMOUTH, May 10.

At Blackwater Messrs Doig and party are taking steps to prove the" va.ue of their late find at which, though not very wide, the reef showed good prospects. Mr D. Ross went on Monday agaiu in search of more reefs. He is being employed by a small syndicate, and will be out about six weeks.

The Fleming syndicate, which lately struck coal in its mine at Stillwater, has been driving on coal which has thickened. It is splendid burning coal, but at present rather on the soft side. As soon as it is driven on with more cover it is expected to haru> The company intends to put more hands on at once in order to thoroughly open up and prove the mine. The find is proof that the country up Stillwater Creek is coal-bearing, the seams of which should extend in the direction of the flats at the back of Dobson.

The tributers of the Greenstone Junction dredge have thrown up the contract. The prospectus of the Antonio's Fat Gold Dredging Company has been filed with the registrar. The capital is fixed at £6000, whereof 150& are to be issued as fully paid-up to vendors, while the remaining 4500 shares' are now open to subscription. It is proposed to acqu're the machinery of the Leviathan Freehold dredge and the pontoons of the A'ldinga diedge. The area to be acquired lies in the bed of Antonio's Creek, and distant by goo 4 road about three miles from the main Grey-Resfton road and Hinau Railway Station. Antonio's Flat is one of the best known and most historic of the various rich creeks traversing the golden belt of the Wesi Coast. In the same line, and contiguous to Antonio's Flat, are the Blackwater Creek on the one side and the Slab Hut Creek on the other, on both of which dredges are at present operating with profitable results. Further away, and in the same line, are Devil's Creek, Big River, Snowy, Mossy, Duffers, Noble's, Nelson. No Town, and many other creeks, oil of which have been good gold-producers in the past, and many of which are still bsing worked. From Autonio's and the neighbouring creek beds mentioned gold to the value of a very large amount has been won. Antonio's Flat in its palmy days supported a large population of diggers, who worked the upper portions of the nat and the various creeks feeding into it with good results. The claim which the company proposes to dredge commences at the end of the old workings and extends down the stream about a mile.

May 13.

The Slab Hut Creek dredge has been submitted to a thorough overhaul, and will recommence operations to-morrow morning in excellent order.

The repairs to the Pactolus No. 1 dredge will be completed this week, and it is anticipated that dredging will be resumed on Wednesday. The Pactolus No. 2 dredge got 69 oz 6dwt for 131 hours in fairly rough, wash.

The No Town Creek d-redge got 31oz for 128 hours. The bottom, wash is not so rough as formerly.

A private party intends to construct an extensive race from the New River to Maori Gully at a cost of £5000. This will enable a large area of ground- to be worked.
