Captain Alexander wrote that hie Excellency the Governor and Lady Ranfurly would 'be pleated to accede to the- board's request to distribute thp prize? to the fcivccessful pupils at 'he G'Vls' High School break-up on the 11th i«?t. — Received.
The Rev. W. Guraou?Ziggers thanked the board for aml t ai-cedcd to- their invitation ,to preside at tlw distribution of prizes to the Boys' High Schorl. — Soc^ived. The Secretary to the Otago Education Board Virote forwarding a resolution of theboard protesting against the differentiation of sums payable b;y holders of scholarships attending the High Schools and those attending District High Schools. — Several members of the board expressed their inability to comprehend the exact meaning of the resolution, and it was agreed to defer consideration of the matter till next meeting. A letter was rcoeived from Mr P. Kinney, lessee of run 205 d, Rock and Pillar, who wrote that he was unable to pay his rent unless it were reduced in accordance with the board's offer, and a -king the board" to renew its recommendation to tiie Governor-in-Council to have tho rent so reduced. — The Secretary observed that Mr Mackenzie was conversant with this matter, and ho might explain it to the members present. — Mr Mackenzie said that he had introduced Mr Kinney to the Minister of Lands, who was made acquainted with the circumstances as to why the boatd recommended the rent to be reduced. The lion. Mr Duncan eeemed to be favourably impr^f-s'ecl with the matter, and Mr Kin-ney and ho (tho speaker) left with the impression thai Iho renl would be reduced. Subsequently Mr Kinney received a letter from the department stating that his request had been declined.
It waa resolved that the Government be again approached 'with the request that the recommendation of the board in the direction of reducing the rent bo given effect to. Miss Alves, one of- the teachers of the Girls' School, was granted leave of absence, satisfactory arrangements having been made to fill her position during her absence.
