NEW ZEALAND CHESS ASSOCIATION.
The next quarterly meeting of the council of the New Zealand Chess Association will be I.plc! in Wellington on December 9, the principal business being to make arrangements for the championship tournament, which is to take place in Auckland during the Christmas and Now Year holidays. In view of the ap proachhig tournament and the pending expenses for prises and management, the council is at present experiencing much anxiety about fuiids, f.s several clubs' subscriptions arc overdue, and no notice has, in fome cases, been taken oi the treasurer's appeal for early payment. Doubtless this is the result of carelc»sness only; and club committees piobably elo not realise how much trouble and anxiety their laxity in tins matter causes to the authonties. Subscriptions were, % Rule 11, due on November 1 ; and we would urge all who are in aireais to make immediate payment. Pay! P?y! Pay!
