A let urn .match was played last week at the Tiocadero between the Wellington Chess Club and the Working Men's Chib. The former, relying perhaps on past achievements, was not represented by anything like its full strength, and the result was an unexpected victory for the Working Men's Club by 9to 5. For thp winnors, Ryder, Kelling, Brown, Janiou, M'Kinlay, Perry, Oppler, and Applegaith -won their games, and Rigg and Morton secuied draws; while on the losing side Mason, Smith. Richardson, ar.d Jolly scored wins, and R. C. Sim pud Salek drew. The final score was : Work, »^ Men's Club 8 wins and 2 draws (9 points;, Wellington Chess Club 4 wins and 2 draws (5 points).
