Capteia and Midshipmite.
It wa9 in Malta Harbour on a sußry day that a four-foct-oight midshipman came to join his first sea-going ship. Having duly reported himself io the captain— an officer of some 6ft 2in— the latter, literally looking down upon the boy, said :
"Well, youngster, so you've come to join — cli? "
"Yes, if you please, sir," meekly responded the midshipman.
"What is it — 3ame old yarn, sent the fool of the family to sea — eb?"
"No-, sir," ingeniously replied the youngster; "oh no, things have al'ered since your iinso, sir."
• "Go away!" roared the captain, and tho middy flew below as fast as his little legs could carry him. — Cornhill.
