Apropos of the execrable penmanship of great men, Professor Max Muller tells an interesting story.
" Once whsn I wished <o find out how Dean Stanley behavc-d at Court, whether he dressed or shaved more carefully at Windsor than at Oxford, and particularly whether, when writing to tho highest persons of the realm, he wrote a different hand from that which his friends knew from sad experience, I ventured to ask Prinoe Leopold. "Bursting out laughing, he said : 'When a letter from the Dean arrives, we have often to summon the whole Castle before we can decipher it.' "
